Required Reading

On Saturday's leadership webinar, Corey Citron talked about "required reading." He said that How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie is required reading for every network marketer! I am going to take his statement a little further and say this book is required reading for every network marketer, every leader and every adult. Having grown up in a home of a network marketer, I have read this book. It has helped me so much in this industry, and more importantly, my life.

There are four sections in How to Win Friends and Influence people that I am going to outline below.

Fundamental Techniques in Dealing with People
1. Don't Criticize, Condemn or Complain
2. Give honest, sincere appreciation
3. Arouse in another person an eager want

How To Make People Like You
1. Become genuinely interested in other people
2. Smile
3. Remember that a person's name is the sweetest most important sound in any language to that person
4. Listen
5. Encourage others to talk about themselves
6. Talk in terms of other persons interests
7. Make the other person feel important

How to Win People to Your Way of Thinking
1.Avoid argument
2. Show respect for other's opinions
3. Never say, “You’re wrong”
4. If you are wrong, admit it quickly and emphatically
5. Begin arguments or discussions in a friendly way
6. Let the other person feel that idea is his or hers
7. Try honestly to see things from other persons point of view

How to Be a Leader

1. Give praise and honest appreciation.
2. Call out other people's mistakes calmly and indirectly
3. Talk about your own mistakes before being down or criticizing others
4. Praise the smallest improvements and every improvement
5. Give other people a fine reputation to live up to
6. Use encouragement.
7. Make fault seem easy to correct
8. Make the other person happy about doing what you think is best

Like most of you, it's been awhile since I read this book, so I looked back at my notes as a little refresher. I thought it would be a nice refresher for everyone! If you haven't read this book, I think you definitely should. It will help you so much in business and in personal life. Like Corey said, it's required reading!
